National Palliative Care Standards for All Health Professionals and Aged Care Services
The Objective
To develop the National Palliative Care Standards for All Health Professionals and Aged Care Services to complement the National Palliative Care Standards (NPCS) 5th edition.
Our Approach
Aspex worked with Palliative Care Australia and its steering committee to develop a scoping document that identifi ed the core scope, content and structure of the Standards, mapping alignment with the NPCS standards. The process of development of the Standards was informed by an evidence review and consultations nationally across the healthcare sector.
The Outcomes
Palliative Care Australia endorsed the standards, which were published as the National Palliative Care Standards for All Health Professionals and Aged Care Services in March 2022. The standards are key to supporting better experiences and outcomes for people receiving generalist palliative care. The scope is broad and spans care across acute hospitals, ambulatory specialist clinics, primary care services, residential aged care services and people’s homes.
