The Objective
The overall intent of the project was to develop an evidence-informed Child and Adolescent Mental Health Service (CAMHS) model of care that aligned with Murrumbidgee Local Health District (LHD) strategic directions and the broader national and state policy context.
Our Approach
The project involved:
- A review of policy directions and a rapid literature scan to identify contemporary evidence-based approaches to the provision of CAMHS services
- A framework for a CAMHS model of care relevant to the Murrumbidgee LHD context
- Consultations with a broad range of key internal and external stakeholders including clinicians, CAMHS teams, Clinical Directors, Aboriginal Community Controlled Health Organisations to seek input, direction and approaches to inform the model of care
- Workshops with clinical and senior executives to co-design the model of care.
- Review of current services to understand nature and demand for CAMHS services and a review of workforce to identify current gaps and workforce needs
The Outcomes
The project delivered a final model of care for CAMHS that included a role delineation of CAMHS from the Safeguards program, a summary of priority implementation considerations and key change management strategies.
